Media triangle

A)Text:

-The company tells how the shingle rash can cause long term pain to the people who are in adults 60 years of age or older

-Then company tells their vaccine can protect people from the rashes

Production:

-the company's name is Zostavax and it says "before you get shingles, ask about Zostavax

-there is one big picture that shows the skin with terrible rashes that show the seriousness of pain.

Audience:

-It is understood by the audience that by using the Zostavax vaccine can get rid of the serious rashes

-The intended target audience would be adults who are at age of 60 or more who is suffering of the rashes.

B)I think this advertisement is encouraging people to use their product by showing some serious effects of rashes. It is telling audience that if we don't get the product that could possibly happen to us. Also the advertisement states the possible side effects and allergics, which I think that the company wanted to show the honest part so that custmer could trust them more.

Questions
A)What is the message of the artifact? Defend your interpretation with specific reference to the artifact.

-The main message of the artifact is that people can have serious harm by rashes their for they need the vaccine to protect themselves. The article tells "some people who develop shingles experience longterm pain that can last for months, even years." which tries to create people a desire to protect themselves from rashes. Also I think the article tries to hurry the customers to but the product as It says "once you reach age 60, the sooner you get vaccinated, the better chance to protect yourself from shingles.

B)What does the artifact imply about the values and/or lifestyle of the people depicted in the artifact? Defend your interpretation with specific reference to the artifact.

- The old people depicted in the artifact is having serious long term health problem from the rashes and their life is hugely affected by not using any vaccine to protect them. So It is showing how the situation can be better by using the Zostavax

c)What possible bias might the source of the artifact have? Defend your interpretation with specific reference to the artifact.

-The possible bias that artifact might have is that people who has lot of allegies, as many people affected by the allegies like food and pet it often cause rashes. People may want to keep this product when they are exposed to certain kinds of allegies that would cause a rashes.

d)What agenda might the publisher have by producing this artifact? Defend your interpretation with specific reference to the artifact

-Publisher may had an agenda to make people aware the seriousness of rashes to old people, because people often don't take it serious as a problem. Many people may think it would go away after somewhile, but in the advertisement clearly states that rashes usually lasts up to 30days and can even last for years. Product emphasizes this illness to olden people who usually would care about other problems like teeth and bones. The company may have wanted to turn their attention to the product by stating serious problems

e)What would this artifact resonate with its intended audience? Defend your interpretation with specific reference to the artifact

-The product would mainly resonate real solution for old people who is suffering of rashes, but I think it can also be main soultion for the people who is suffering by allegies as often allegy leads to rashes

f)How does this artifact resonate with you? Does it offend? Does it make you buy in? Confirm your values? Cause you to question them? Defend your interpretation with specific reference to the artifact.

-The advertisement effectively tells the seriousness of rashes by showing the picture of a body that damaged by rashes. It doesn't offend but it makes me somehow worry by looking that picture, as it could also happen to me one day.I think it could be affective advertisement for young people who live with their old parents, because they will think their parents are the one with higher chance of getting rashes. On the other hand it cause me to question that if the product is really effective for curing rashes, as it doesn't really state much about the medical ingredient it used to produce the product. What is the difference between this product and other vaccine product that cures rash?

violent games

http://www.softsailor.com/news/11624-ps3-modern-warf

This picture is an image of very famous CD game that have been playing among by the teenagers. As you see it is game about the war, and clearly there are lot of violence in the game. When people play this kind of game they most of the time links this as a reality which they unconsciously think there are many wars around the world like in the game. Which gives an image that world is a dangerous

Most of the violent games involves fighting, war, killing and destroying has more higher rate than non violent games. When people spend more time with these kind of games and some people who even spend hours or days to play the game would obviously have an idea that world is a dangerous place.
On the other hand despite this fact company is keep making this kinds of game and sponsor them, as their main intention is to get a profit http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=XWIJTydRLt8
In the games sometimes link us to the reality for example in the counter strike game they divide the teams in to terrorist and counter terrorist. Which set a story as terrorist tries to bomb an area than counter terrorist tries to defend it. So This game for example show how could there be many terrorist around the area and make us to feel fear about the terrorist. In the reality there are not much terrorist who could attack us, which we are really secured from those kind of danger. It is true that there are certain kind of danger we are exposed to, but media there are lot more secure places around the world that is safe. Whoever owns biggest megaphone wins!
So who owns all these media games? It is found through research that Vivendi Universal owns the 54%of the game stock.

country with highest crime rates

http://www.mapsofworld.com/world-top-ten/countries-with-highest-reported-crime-rates.html
As you see here the countries with the highest crime rates are as follow. The first highest crime rate country is iceland, but most people don't know that this country has such a high crime rate or some people even don't know much about ice land.

Many people would think that USA is a dangerous country, but in fact there are not even in the
top 10 least of highest crime rate country. In fact the New York in USA which has the highest population of 8,345,075 only has the rate of 580.3 violence crimes.http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/United_States_cities_by_crime_ratepedia.org/wiki/United_States_cities_by_crime_rate

compare to that if you see in the map Canada with tenth in list of highest crime rate has more than 4000 crimes in every 100,000 population. Did you recognize that most of the listed countries in the map are the countries that we thought to be very safe and have small rate of crimes, and countries that we thought to be more dangerous such as African countries, Mexico, south American countries, south-east Asian countries are not even in the list. So why do have this image about these countries even in reality it is not true?, If you noticed or not the countries with the highest crime rate in the map are all developed countries. On the other hand the countries we have thought to be dangerous are mostly the developing countries. Perhaps it is likely that media is just tring to blind us from the reality and gives image us an image that all those developed nation are powerful, strong , trustful

Going deeper into media

Since it has been 3 weeks of learning this course, knowledge about media has become into big picture in my mind. I realized the main concepts I must remember all the time are the"6 things about media" and the "media triangle". If I keep these concepts as my base knowledge, I can see the media as more clear picture.During last weeks class we watched the movie called 'wag the dog', which was the story about election of president, but the current president had made scandal so governments tries to cover up the scandal by using media. From the movie, I could see how the some of 6things of media is applied. For example in the movie government could control most of the media, which they made false news about Albanian terror and created a song that tried to bring good images to the president, this shows the example of 'whoever owns biggest megaphone wins' people tends to get only one side of story which there no counter culture.
On the other hand, we also learned deeply about the media triangle, which is a triangle diagram that shows how media is deconstructed to 3 parts: text, audience, and production. These are essential ingredience of media which are always included. We could deconstruct most of media into these 3 parts. For example the most people now watching and hearing about is the Olympic and for most of us we watch through the TV which is a media.
We can ask questions to deconstruct:Who is the target audience of the Olympic?, it is basically all the citizens around the world who has TV in there homeThen how the events appeal to us? is the players in the Olympic looks doing good job?who is running it? what ads or songs are played along the events?who profits of all these events?By asking these questions we could deconstruct the media.I also wonder if all things said in the TV about the Olympic is true? or is only the half of the story that is affected by the bias, How ever at the end it is sure that it is only one version of truth. It is important to check what is being shown and what is the purpose? because often the time when we see things repeatly through media we unconsciously believer it, as it is shown to us over and over again. basically media is our window and they show the sides that they want us to believe
